September Heads

I drew each of these while hunched over on a stool at my parent's house. I was visiting to see "Drive" with my brother (and this was a very, very good film--good ending, good pacing, nobody talked too much, especially the protagonist. Tense and quiet in a good way). My drawing was punctuated with the noise of a whining dog, dogs on television (my mother watching "Animal Cops"), and some kind of pneumatic nailer as my father and brother worked on the hardwood floor. "Whiiine-whiiiine-CHONK-whiiiinnne-whiiiinnne-CHONK-whiiinne" and so on.

I was drawing mostly to toy around with hairstyles. I often have trouble drawing longer hairstyles, making them look like they've got some volume, etc. So here was my effort to amend that.

1) Young guy; comb-forward hairstyle. Not happy.
2) Sort of resembles this older, heroic character I liked to draw as a teenager. Moustaches were not entirely out of fashion at the time--just mostly so.
3) Looks a bit like my relative named Carl. I have four relatives named Carl (one grandfather, two uncles and a cousin), so ... I don't have to be precise. I should explain that my mother and father married without precisely realizing that their respective fathers and brothers were each named Carl. So it's not like anyone gave more than one of their kids the same name. There used to be six Carls in my family--but two of them are dead now--my father's father and my mother's grandfather.
4) I can't tell if this guy is supposed to be a musician or a painter, but he looks 17th century to me.
5) Another Abe Lincoln sort.
6) Hey, a lady! She's got spunk. I like her.
